Leather was once a living material, and I believe every part of each hide deserves to be used with care.

As I create my journals, I save the leftover pieces of leather that would otherwise go unused. Rather than letting these pieces go to waste, as much as I can, I try to salvage these for use in another piece of mine, somewhere down the line. One of these new life pieces is a one-of-a-kind patchwork journal cover.

Each patchwork is corset-stitched together, then bonded to a soft chrome-tanned goatskin lining for durability and flexibility before being cut, finished, and crafted into your journal cover. This lining is not burnishable. Every journal is completely unique, with its own combination of colours, textures, and natural markings. Every Patchwork Journal is made by hand, and no two will ever be exactly the same.

Each Patchwork Journal is made to order in my Sydney studio and takes approximately 6 to 8 weeks to complete.

Personalisation

Just like my standard journals, you can personalise your Patchwork Journal with:

  • Complimentary embossing
  • Your choice of embossing foil colour
  • Your preferred elastic colour
  • Your choice of eyelet finish

You can also choose the overall colour palette for your Patchwork Journal. Select from one of the curated palette options, and I will hand-select and compose the closest available leather pieces to match your chosen direction. Alternatively, choose “Your Choice” if you’d like a more specific combination. You can list 3–4 preferred colours in the “Other Personalisations” section, and I will do my best to include them where available. If any colours are unavailable, I will get in touch with you to refine the palette together before making your journal.

As each journal is created using carefully selected leather off-cuts, exact shades, textures, and placement will always vary depending on what is available at the time. This ensures every Patchwork Journal is truly one of a kind.

Each journal includes one 60-page kraft notebook, ready to use from the moment it arrives.

Please note: As every Patchwork Journal is individually handmade by me, subtle variations in colour, grain, stitching and layout are all part of what makes your piece unique. They are not imperfections, but a reflection of a journal made slowly, by hand, just for you.

Details & Embossing

Dimensions
Passport (B7): 14.5 × 9 cm(closed)

Field (A6): 14.5 x 11.5 cm (closed)

Everyday (A5): 21.5 x 12 cm (closed)

Closure eyelets are placed on the back of the journal, by default. However, if you would like these to be on the spine, email me.

Embossing

Embossing is complimentary.
I use uppercase characters at 4mm height and lowercase characters at 3mm in a clean sans serif font. Standard symbols such as numbers, letters, and select icons (heart, star, sun, moon, sparkle) are available.

For Patchwork Journals, embossing placement and length may be slightly more limited due to the segmented nature of the leather panels. As a guide, shorter embossing (8–10 characters) works best to ensure a clean, balanced finish. If your requested text is longer, I may contact you to adjust the placement or layout so it works beautifully with the design.

By default, embossing is placed on the bottom-right corner of the front cover and centred on the inside flap. For custom placement, feel free to email me.

Please note: Custom requests or order changes will only be honored after you receive a confirmation email from me.

Material & Care

Leather (outer)
I use Italian vegetable tanned leather from the Genuine Italian Vegetable Tanned Leather Consortium. This is the same stuff the best leather makers use, and for good reason. Every hide is a little different, so you might notice subtle variations in colour, small natural marks, or unique grain patterns. That's not a flaw, that's the leather. With daily use it softens, deepens in tone, and develops a patina that's entirely your own.

Leather (lining)

The interior lining is made from soft chrome-tanned goatskin/lambskin leather, chosen for its flexibility, durability, and smooth finish, allowing the journal to open and close comfortably with daily use. Note, the lining leather is not burnishable.

Leather Care
Wipe gently with a clean, dry cloth. If you'd like, apply a touch of leather balm, let it absorb and lightly buff. Avoid contact with water, harsh cleaners and heat. If it gets wet, blot and let it air dry naturally.

Eyelet Care
I use brass eyelets with a colored finish, which may naturally patina with time and touch. If you would like to brighten your hardware, gently polish with a cotton swab and a brass cleaner, taking care to avoid contact with the leather.

Made in Sydney, NSW.
